Spark
Public Art
Chabot College Planetarium, Hayward, CA • 2011
Wowhaus transformed an existing planetarium was into a landmark on the campus via four architecturally integrated mosaic murals. Created from thousands of pieces of hand-cut glass, iridescent glass and mirror, the four 10’ h x 12’ wide murals feature abstract images of a spark. The imagery evokes the spark of inspiration, creativity and insight fostered through education at the college; the spark also references the spirit of scientific inquiry and the cosmos. Imagery was inspired by dialogue with the college community, including students, faculty and staff. Iridescent glass and mirror cast colored light on passerby, shifting with the passage of the sun throughout the day.
