Vesper, Oakland, CA 2021
A landmark 30′ l x 28′ w mosaic mural activates a large wall in a new development in the heart of Oakland. Rendered in thousands of pieces of hand-cut glass, opalescent glass and mirrored glass, the artwork offers fresh perspective on a familiar icon of Oakland – the oak tree. The painterly, abstract composition takes inspiration from photographs of an acorn bract taken under a microscope. The shimmering spectrum of colors in the mosaic artwork evokes the cultural diversity of Oakland and offers unique insight into the beauty of the Oakland native ecosystem, revealing the extraordinary in the seemingly ordinary.
