Coffey Park, Santa Rosa, CA
Evoking the regenerative qualities of rainwater, interactive raindrop sculptures commemorate the resiliency of the Coffey Park community, many of whom lost their home in the 2017 Tubbs Wildfire. Integrated into a rain garden that reclaims stormwater, functional sculptures invite playful engagement; they can be pivoted to create an endless array of seating arrangements. Glass terrazzo and iridescent mosaic glimmer in sunlight; phosphorescent mosaic glows at night. Community engagement informed design. Sculptures are made of highly durable Glass Fiber Reinforced Concrete (GFRC) that remains cool in the sun. Commissioned by the Santa Rosa Public Art Program.
