Watershed Stepping Stones
Public Art
Five Sites throughout Oakland, CA • 2011
Marking the sites of subterranean creeks throughout the city, a series of five cast bronze relief pieces at each site evoke “stepping stones” across a creek, calling attention to the city’s subterranean watershed ecosystem. Native species are featured, including fish, frogs & salamanders that are found in local creeks. Wowhaus led community design charettes at farmer’s markets, libraries, and other public sites and collaborated with Oakland Creeks, Watershed & Stormwater Dept. Additional installations could map the entire Oakland watershed.
Commissioned by: City of Oakland Public Art Program. Bronze casting: Artworks Foundry. Sculpture assistance: Tamara Stewart.
