Art/Ecology Exhibition Survey: Phase 1
Temporary + Social Practice
Utopia Now (And Then) Exhibition, Sonoma County Museum, Santa Rosa, CA • 2002
Wowhaus realized the Ecology/Art Expedition Survey in collaboration with artist Nils Norman as part of the “Utopia Now” Exhibition at the Sonoma County Museum. The artists served as pollinators and interpreters during a daylong bus tour and exploration of local environmental institutions, facilitating a guided tour of multiple ecological sites. 50 people joined in this “mobile think tank”, collaborating in cooking local produce and making their own butter on the bus for a seasonal meal as a local historian and San Francisco Estuary Institute scientists provided insight into the natural and cultural history of the region. The tour visited sites including Occidental Arts & Ecology Center, the Permaculture Institute of Northern California, Hog Island Oysters, and Canard Farm.
