Tree Trust True
For the "Hybrid Fields" Exhibition, Sonoma County Museum Santa Rosa, California, 2007 Curated by Patricia Watts

Scott made an outdoor banquet table and seating from a single wind-fallen tree from the Wowhaus property; eight bowls were carved into the table top. A functional, monumental sculpture, temporarily sited on the grounds of the Sonoma County Museum, the table served as the architecture for a temporal gathering and tasting of foods from trees reflecting the local bioregion.

The event had roots in agricultural harvest feasts when extended families come together to give thanks and celebrate seasonal abundance. Like other site-specific Wowhaus projects, “Tree Trust True” is a social sculpture combining architectonic elements with ephemeral social interaction, fostering convivial exchange. “Trust” and “True” have common linguistic roots in “Tree” ; this project aims to demonstrate the perennial virtues of tree culture in contemporary life.

Special thanks to Steve Potts, Bernie Jungle, Bill Martin, Joshua Miner, Mark Sgarzi and all the farmers who contributed to the tasting. For more information on local farms, please go to: www.farmtrails.org For information about the exhibition: www.sonomacountymuseum.org
