Ecology/Art Expedition Survey Phase 1 March 17, 2002
A Collaboration with Nils Norman held in conjunction with the "Utopia Now! (and Then)" Exhibition, Sonoma County Museum Santa Rosa, California

The Bay Area is home to a network of ecology and agriculture institutions, yet no artistic rubric exists either linking these sites or interpreting this network as a whole. In this project the artists served as pollinators and interpreters, arranging site visits to the Occidental Arts & Ecology Center, the Permaculture Institute of Northern California, Hog Island Oyster Company, and Cannard Farm.

During this day-long bus tour Arthur Dawson, a local historian, provided a regional historic perspective; Robin Grossinger and Elise Brewster of the San Francisco Estuary Institute provided scientific mapping and information about local aquatic systems.

50 participants joined in this "mobile think" tank, collaborating with the artists in preparing local produce and making their own butter on the bus for a seasonal meal. The artists are now generating initiatives and projects related to local ecology and agriculture; Phase 2 is slated for 2006.
