2000 From Left to Right:
Skin Commissioned to complement a collection of Czech cubist decorative arts, this couch is a high-tech interpretation of innovative panel construction developed by Czech artisans in the early 20th century. Designed using Alias 3d rendering software, the structure is made of CNC-cut MDF panels with mahogany veneer. The base is without internal framing, getting all structural integrity from its skin. The upholstery is traditional horsehair over hand-tied springs.
Captain Chair This chair, made of Bay Laurel and bent Elm, explores optimal comfort with minimal joinery, functioning as a riff on the traditional Windsor Chair and the English Bodging tradition from which it evolved. Elaborating on the bodgers tradition of forest stewardship, it is an urban, American contemporary Windsor, and is made from trees milled from the urban forest - street trees that would otherwise become firewood or wood chips.
